Ray Lamontagne Columbus Concert reviews
Fantastic
The venue itself was fantastic--from the easy parking to the few steps to the entrance, where we were greeted by the most friendly and helpful staff. Appreciated having a drink in the lobby prior to the show. The theatre itself has great sound and don't think you can have a bad seat.
This was our first time seeing Ray LaMontagne after falling in love with his music on Criminal Minds and Spotify. He puts on a great show, from the more soulful songs to the more upbeat. Probably because his songs are so personal, yet universal, the audience really connects with him. It feels like he could be your friend. Easy to see why he has such devoted fans, and why we have become one.
Room for Improvement
Moody Amphitheater is a recently opened outdoor venue in an urban park. The slope of the seating hill was almost not sharp enough to see over the people in front of us, and we are tall people.
The sound was WAY off- the whole place was very quiet while Ray was performing and it was still hard to hear. When he spoke in-between songs, we could only make out about every fifth word. People were shouting “turn it up.”
The choice of lighting - cool solarium style backdrop, but it shrouded the performers in shadow. So they were hard to hear and hard to see.
The venue, other than the small slope, was very smooth and easy to get in and out of. The facilities are well spaced and readily available. Ample parking made for a quick in and out of town, which was nice.
Artists Deserve Respect
Wonderful Venue, beautiful Theater, and an amazing performance by both Sierra Ferrell and Ray Lamontagne. My daughter and I were both happy to see them both on stage for a few numbers. I did not expect the crowd for this type of show to be so rude. Why spend money to see musicians if they are given no attention or respect. The yelling, drunken conversations and stumbling, getting up in between EVERY song and switching seats was mind blowing by groups both in front and back of us. Even My 10 year old daughter was surprised that adults would act such a way in that supposedly calm and peaceful setting.
